Rich and colourful Landscapes.

Since coming to Essex in 2010 I have taken inspiration from the river and estuary landscape around Essex and Suffolk.

I work to capture ‘a sense of place’ from the complex shapes and colours of nature set against linier architectural forms of buildings, boats and townscapes.

My paintings try to evoke a feeling of being outdoors and in the landscape…..looking and experiencing the view.

Broken Halo by Debra Weiss

Debra Weiss

My work lies between the imagery of the real world and that of the invented iconic world of art and it's history.

Although I am interested from years as a portrait painter, and restorer of historic portraits, in capturing likeness. I am not concerned with pushing that too far to the point where you cannot see the paints marks.

I enjoy revealing the 'sense' of portrait. it's place in time, a suggestion of the history behind the image, like peeling paint of a fresco hinting at traces of a lost story.

Worn and abstracted surfaces, the use of 24 carat gold and silver leaf, bring not just an indicator of preciousness but also an abstract pictorial element to the paintings.

Showing along side Debra and James are the celebrated and inspitational ceramicists Pru Green and Simon Sharpe
