QUARTET
Four artists from Suffolk get together to show their varied work – Mary Gundry (figurative), Wil Harvey (line and wash), James Power (landscape), Alan Rutter (linocut).
Mary Gundry
Mary's work has been recognised in the East Anglia area for over 25 years, particularly for her paintings of children on the beach and the Suffolk coastline. In recent years she has broadened her approach and referred to the work of Harry Becker and many of the more impressionist artists. This has led to her current interest in figures at work- in particular local fishermen of which there are several examples in this exhibition.

Alan Rutter
Alan Rutter is a Blythburgh based printmaker who studied graphic design at Hornsey College of Art and practised as a graphic designer in London for over twenty years. He eventually trained as a teacher and taught graphics until retirement. Using his design experience and love of the local countryside he produces linocut prints from around Blythburgh.
Wil Harvey
Since childhood, drawing has formed the basis of Wil’s work, and his main medium is ink and wash – largely landscapes, buildings and industrial scenes.
Wil exhibits and runs workshops with local art clubs. He particularly enjoys painting en plein-air, working in a loose, energetic style, trying to capture a feeling of spontaneity and energy. Together with Jim Power, he formed the East Suffolk Plein Air Painters who meet on the last Sunday of each month at various locations (a nearby café is important…)
Although ink drawing is his ‘default mode’, he also likes to experiment with a range of other media, and took up portraiture (oils and charcoal) in 2002.
