Alexandra Oliver’s artwork is focused upon an exploration of the serene beauty of the English countryside that surrounds her in Suffolk. She emboldens the viewer with a sense of immersion within the landscape, capturing the animate energy that flows throughout the natural world.
She integrates her experiences exploring her local countryside landscape and alchemises them into her own visual language.
Oliver’s influences span the poetic sensibilities of Constable and Gainsborough, the drama of Turner, and the ethereal opulence of Rococo aesthetics. Her art blends these elements to infuse her work with a representational flourish.
Her traditional approach to painting has evolved from a background following a BA in Fine Art with History of Art at the University of Leeds, practical art training in Florence and art history at Sotheby’s Institute of Art where she completed her MA in Fine and Decorative Art & Design.
Exhibition:
Title: Viridis
(Latin: green, verdant, vitality)
While the literal translation of 'Viridis' denotes the colour green, it also suggests playfulness and evokes visions of lively, abundant vegetation. Green echoes throughout this exhibition – a dreamscape of a temporal realm. Viridis draws upon the artist’s connection with the Suffolk landscape where the artist grew up. Interwoven with memories of these places and art historical influences, the exhibition presents a world where nature becomes sanctuary and source.
